Salary structuring

We can help you structure salaries in line with local rules, factoring in PAYG withholding, Medicare levy, and superannuation contributions.

Taxes

Employers must pay payroll tax if their total Australian taxable wages exceed the annual payroll tax threshold. In New South Wales (NSW), the threshold is AUD 1.2 million, and the payroll tax rate is 5.45% on wages above this amount.

Payouts

Employees are paid in AUD with payslips generated monthly. Payroll cycles can be aligned with local tax and reporting deadlines.

Superannuation

Employers must make super contributions to a registered super fund chosen by the employee. Contributions are a percentage of the employee’s ordinary time earnings in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992 and form part of the national retirement savings system.

Funded through a 2% levy on taxable income, Medicare gives employees access to a wide range of healthcare services, from hospital treatment to prescription medicines.

Stay aligned with the Fair Work Act, 2009, which applies to most workers in Australia, covering wages, hours, and leave entitlements.

Annual leaves

Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to 4 weeks’ paid annual leave, or 5 weeks for certain shift workers.

Sick leave

Employees can take up to 10 days of paid personal/carer’s leave each year, plus additional unpaid leave if needed.

Parental leave

Eligible employees can access up to 18 weeks of government-funded paid parental leave (paid at the national minimum wage) within 12 months of birth/adoption, plus  upto 12 months of unpaid leave (extendable to 24 months) as per the National Employment Standards.

Notice periods & documentation 

Under Australia’s National Employment Standards (NES), employers must provide minimum notice periods ranging from one week for employees with less than one year of service up to five weeks for those over 45 with at least two years of service.

Final pay & records

All final payments, including outstanding wages, accrued but untaken annual leave, and any long service leave entitlements, must be paid within seven days of termination.  Employers are required to issue an Employment Separation Certificate when requested by the employee or when submitting directly to Centrelink.

Redundancy pay

Employees may receive redundancy pay based on tenure under the National Employment Standards. Final payments must include all accrued leave, outstanding wages, applicable redundancy pay, and superannuation contributions up to the termination date.
