Employment Contracts

Salary structuring

We structure salaries into base pay and lawful allowances so that social security contributions and personal income tax are correctly calculated and filed.

Taxes

Hungary applies a flat personal income tax (15% in recent years) plus social security contributions; employers are responsible for employer social tax and payroll reporting.

Salary

Employees are normally paid in HUF with monthly payslips drafted to meet the standards of the authorities. Payroll cycles align with social security deadlines, national public holidays, and statutory due dates.

Social security contributions

We manage filings and monthly contributions. Typical 2024–2025 contribution structure: employer social tax (~13% “social tax”) plus other employer contributions; employees contribute social security at ~18.5% (employee side), all subject to caps and specific bases. We keep records and remit on schedule.

Overtime pay

Standard working hours are 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week; however, the weekly working time can not exceed 48 hours per week. Any overtime and pay must be agreed upon within the employment contract. The standard workweek is from Monday to Friday.  Overtime payment is mandatory. Employees can work a maximum of 4 hours of overtime daily and 8 hours of overtime weekly.

Annual leaves

Employees are entitled to a statutory minimum of 20 working days of paid annual leave per year, and additional days accrue with age (additional days based on age bands, up to more days after 45). Employers typically manage accrual and scheduling in line with the Labour Code. Public holidays are also to be considered as time off. There are 10 public holidays in Hungary during which time the employees cannot work.

Sick leave

Employees are eligible for statutory sick pay/benefits under the social security system; employers handle the initial absence and documentation, and may top up pay per company policy. Employees are entitled to 15 working days per year, during which time they must receive 70% of their salary during the absence.

Maternity leave

Maternity regimes provide for paid leave; adoptive/maternity specifics and pay rates are governed by social insurance and labour law. Parental leave and childcare-related entitlements exist; these are administered per statutory rules.

Special Leave

Parental holidays apply to both parents each year until the children attain the age of 16. Additional leave ranges from two days to seven days, depending on the number of children.

Notice period

Hungarian law requires advance notice of termination, typically 30–90 days, depending on the reason and tenure. We manage statutory notice periods and the required documentation.

Severance & final payouts

Severance applies where statutory conditions are met (commonly after a minimum service threshold, with caps depending on tenure). We calculate final pay, accrued leave, and any severance and deliver timely final settlements.
